Every day hundreds of Children Injured due to Skateboard - The growing popularity of skateboarding for several decades, in fact followed with "side effects" that are dangerous, namely an increase in injuries, said a new study.

In each year between 1990 and 2008, approximately 65000 children and teens in the u.s. are forced to go in to the emergency room due to injuries related to skateboarding.

The majority (89 per cent) of the injured skateboarders are men, the researchers found. Fractures and dislocations of joints are the most common injuries. Sprain or wrong number of fibers contributes 25 percent of the injuries. While bruises accounted for 20 percent of the total number of injuries.

The researchers also found, that the kids who are older are more likely to experience severe injuries than children who are younger. They are more likely to have cuts on the face, head, or neck.

"Sport wheel that requires balance and take place on hard surfaces such as the skateboard is more likely to make an injury," said Lara McKenzie, a researcher at the Center for Injury Research at children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, and lead author of the study.

McKenzie and other sports security experts recommend some tips to prevent injury due to skate:

1. Do not let children play skateboard without wearing full protective tool, which includes a helmet, protective hands, elbows and knees.

2. Make sure a child playing on a flat surface and avoid playing on public roads that many cars or other vehicles.

3. Do not let children play skateboard if today was already dark or bad weather.

4. Children under 6 years old do not yet have a good balance to play skateboard. And for children ages 6 and 10, adult must supervise every time they play. (source:huffingtonpost.com)
